A Slovenian designer stood out with unique handmade pieces and NFTs

Architect and jewelry designer Metka Mikuletič exhibited her work at Milano Jewelry Week 2022, the largest event of its kind in this part of Europe. The audience was particularly impressed with two unique handcrafted pieces paired with NFT tokens created especially for the occasion.

Metka Mikuletič attended Milano Jewelry Week at the personal organizers’ invitation, who noticed her outstanding work. She presented her selection for men and women, created under the Mimotho brand, as part of the exclusive Jewelry Hub. Only 114 other designers from around the globe have been selected to showcase their prestigious, fashionable, fine and vintage jewelry in this prestigious surrounding.

The designer stood out with two exclusive handcrafted pieces, namely the Orion Nebula ring and Tectonics cufflinks, featuring a one-of-a-kind design and precious gemstones. In cooperation with blockchain company Netis, she also created a new kind of NFT, carrying information about the products, materials and certificates and binding her jewelry with the digital data so that she, as an original author, can always prove the authorship to her buyers.

»I am aware that buyers in the high-end jewelry segment seek exclusivity. Thus, NFTs are becoming a prerequisite for jewelry owners who want to stand out and tell the world they possess something scarce. I wanted to go even further and give my buyers a chance to see all certificates I have obtained regarding the materials and production process. For this, I entered a partnership with the Netis team, who have recently presented an NFT following a new standard which enables the authors to give the buyers a verifiable digital assurance about the origin of the product.«

Miss Mikuletič is convinced that such proofs will become even more relevant shortly. The market is oversaturated with copies that decrease the value of original work due to inferior materials and a lack of ideas.

»To better protect my design ideas, I plan to strengthen my presence on digital platforms, emphasizing certifications and patents that I have obtained. Soon, I also plan to launch an NFT collection.«

This year’s second edition of Milano Jewellery Week hosted more than 750 exhibitors and 150 events between October 20 and 23, attracting an international crowd. Consequently, besides being known for its fashion, Milan successfully claimed the European Capital of Jewellery title with this event. »Due to the size and prestige Milano Jewellery week enjoys internationally, this event represents a platform of unparallel opportunities to me. It allows me to place my work alongside the most prominent jewellery brands and pave the way for my expansion into foreign markets. I am proud that I was able to represent my country as one of the few selected Slovenian designers and show visitors and new business partners how I see the world through jewellery.”

This time, Milano Jewelry Week put artwork’s cultural and artistic value in the foreground, emphasizing local business development, confirms Metka Mikuletič. Under the Mimotho brand, she draws inspiration from the architecture and its minimal form, translating it into modern yet sophisticated and eternal jewellery made of gold and precious stones. The Mimotho collection for men will impress you with a refined and minimalistic approach. At the same time, the pieces she makes for women reflect the grace, ethereality, strength and uniqueness of female representatives, contrasting all characteristics in one astounding form.
